What is a Postpartum Doula?
A postpartum doula as a professional support person trained in the needs of the family in the days, weeks and months after birth or the addition of a new baby. The doula offers non-judgmental support, guidance, evidence based education and practical hands-on support immediately after birth through the first year.

Within those first crucial days of life up to the first year, Dear Doula provides postpartum support for the birthing individual, baby and the family.
Tasks of a Postpartum Doula:

emotional support, reassurance, and empowerment to both caregivers

nurture postpartum individual (emotionally, mentally, physically)

help establish and maintain a routine (with feedings, sleep, hygiene)

assessing the needs of the whole family
-
providing recommendations to certain products/items and/or referrals to certain providers, if requested by family
-
encouragement and positive affirmations throughout the whole process
-
newborn care hands-on education including:
-
general newborn care: diaper changes, assist with burping
-
sleep habits/patterns
-
feeding cues and tips
-
help with bathing baby
-
holding baby while napping
-
modeling how to dress baby
-
sharing skills: babying soothing, swaddling, general care for infant

typical warning signs & when to call the doctor

-
cord and circumcision care, if needed/requested
-
organizing the nursery & household areas with baby items
-
light house work (cleaning the bottles, disposing diapers, cleaning spoiled clothes/items)
-
completing laundry (washing/drying, folding & putting away for baby & parents)
-
sibling education on babies and assist with the new transition, if requested
-
create shopping lists & help with meal preparation
-
can attend postpartum appointments with postpartum individual and/or any appointments for infant (general doctor, lactation support, chiropractic, etc.)

Day Hours: 8am-6pm
Night Hours: 9am-7am
Minimum of 12/hours of care per package
